The price is by the bale: $15 a round bale covers the straw, the drive and the spreading, or $7.50 a bale delivered only, for you to spread. Agreed on the phone, not written up as an estimate with four lines on it.
What dealing with him means for you
It changes four things a customer actually notices.
- One person to talk to
- The number rings Branden. He prices the job and he owns the outcome, so a question halfway through goes to the person who can answer it rather than into a queue.
- Priced by the bale
- $15 a round bale covers the straw, the drive and the spreading. Delivered only, it is $7.50 a bale. Nothing is added afterwards for fuel, for delivery or for raking it level. The only other line that can appear is the flat trip charge on the towns further out, and that is on the page before you call.
- Weekdays, with notice
- Monday to Friday, not weekends. About 2 days' notice where you can manage it.
- A spread job is finished before the truck leaves
- When you have it spread, every bale you bought goes into your beds and is raked even, so none are left sitting in the driveway. Delivered only is the other way round: the bales are left with you to spread.
Not on the truck
Worth knowing before you spend a phone call on it.
- No weekends. Monday to Friday, and that is the whole of it.
- No bark, rock or rubber mulch. Pine straw is the material; the other two are a different truck and a different trade.
- No spreading fee added on. Spreading is in the $15 a bale. If you would rather spread it yourself, it is $7.50 a bale delivered only.
- Nothing under $150. The loading and the drive cost the same whether it is three bales or thirty, so the smallest order is $150: 10 bales spread, or 20 bales delivered only.
- Nothing past about 85 minutes from Glennville. Brunswick, at about 80 minutes, is the furthest the truck goes. Further out than that, a straight no on the phone is worth more than a trip neither of you enjoys.
Where the truck loads from
Glennville, Georgia. The truck loads there and the trip is counted in minutes rather than miles, because a mile of back road and a mile of highway are not the same trip.
Inside 30 minutes there is no charge for the drive at all: Glennville, Reidsville, Claxton, Ludowici. Past that there is one flat $150 for the trip, charged once however many bales you order, spread or delivered only, out to 13 towns in all.
